CT Forum “Global Affairs”

The CT Forum is an awesome opportunity to hear from highly accomplished speakers, and the "Global Affairs" event I attended was no exception. Hearing Admiral James Stavridis and Anne Applebaum discuss their stances on current events was insightful, educational, and engaging. Some of the topics that were discussed include the Trump administration changes to USAID, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and the future of the Middle East.

ADL Never is Now Conference 2025

IMG_3084.jpg

For the second year in a row, I attended the ADL Never is Now conference in New York. This trip comes with so many complicated feelings, of pride, anger, connection and frustration, to name a few. Attending a conference this big is such an awing experience, and empowering to be in spaces filled with so many people all fighting for change. While there were certainly people I disagreed with, that only added to the experience.

Friday Prayers at Farmington Valley American Muslim Center

Built into the Global Studies Program's requirements for the year is at least one religious event or reflection, about a religion you do not identify as a part of. This led me to attend a Muslim prayer service, which was a completely new and unique experience. We also got the privilege of having a small meeting with afterwards with the interim Imam, to ask questions and have a discussion.

MASS MoCA

MASS MoCA is an art museum unlike any I have ever seen before. Its contemporary, and creative, and vast and the exhibits are each incredibly unique, and inspiring. After spending an entire day exploring, there was still so much of the museum I hadn't seen. Hopefully one day I will be able to go back to see the rest, and revisit some of my favorite pieces and exhibits.

Arn Chorn-Pond Visit

Arn Chorn-Pond is a Cambodian American musician and activist, who lived through the Khmer Rouge regime. His visit to Watkinson taught me a lot about Cambodian culture and arts, and showed me just how big an impact one person can make.

Justice Mullins'
Public Hearing

Seeing Justice Raheem Mullins public hearing before being confirmed as Head Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court showed me a window into how our local court system works. It was also truly inspiring getting to witness the accomplishments of a Watkinson alum.
